I walked outside earlier and saw this insect on our screen, I hollered (yes im country, i holler lmao) for Jeff to come look at it, I told him it was a cute little black butterfly on our screen. He comes out and goes...."that's NOT a butterfly, its a MOTH" Soooooo he even went inside and googled black moth and told me to come look, which i did and it didn't look anything like it! So I told him to google black butterfly, and a picture identical to the butterfly come up. He still insists its a moth.
So tell me....Moth or Butterfly??

I'm thinking butterfly. Moths have this ick factor about them, butterflies don't.

So my husband and I just had this debate last week...the diff, you ask? Butterflies are active during the day; moths are active at night. Typically, butterflies have brighter coloring, while their moth counterparts are more drab. And the other distinguishing factor...the shape of their body - butterflies have a straight, narrow body and moths' bodies are more curved. Aren't you impressed with all this useless entomology knowledge?
I have had this conversation before too! I think yours is probably a butterfly.

So based on that, I think your bug is a butterfly. (sorry for the long comment, I wanted you to have facts to throw back haha)
