Sid The Science Kid and Dive Olly Dive DVDs (review)

I've had these DVDs for quite some time, our DVD player broke so I was just now able to play the Sid The Science Kid DVDs for the kids. Both Sid The Science Kid and Dive Olly Dive are PBS shows. Sid the Science Kid is on PBS Kids, and Dive Olly Dive is on PBS Sprout.

The first DVD we watched was Dive Olly Dive. Here is a little bit from the site about what the series is about:
Dive Olly Dive follows the adventures of Olly, a young submarine-in-training, and Beth, his best friend and fellow sub-in-training. Stationed at the Special Underwater Research Facility (S.U.R.F.) under the guidance of Diver Doug, the young subs explore their spectacular underwater world.

Joining Olly and Beth are Skid, Doug's sleek transport vehicle; Brandt, a cantankerous hermit crab who imagines himself as a pirate; UMA, an eight-appendaged Underwater Maintenance Assistant; Ranger, a tiny cowboy seahorse who wrangles his herd of squid; Shankley, the Scottish sea crane who spins tales of the deep seas; Suzy, the awesome aerobatic seas plane; and Luseal, the fun-loving, athletic seal.

I had to explain to Jeffery and Jaylin what a submarine was, Jeffery quickly caught on, Jaylin still likes to call them "fish". When I first put the DVD in, it was SILENCE in my house for awhile (well, you know, besides the dvd playing lol). I would randomly hear Jeffery and Jaylin talking about what was going on, or saying "uh oh" when there was trouble. It was neat seeing them interact with it and eachother like that, Jeffery even tried to explain to Jaylin some things she didn't understand. I sat and watched Dive Olly Dive with them the 1st time, I loved they had adventures, and life lessons were taught. Such as why you must listen to eachother, and follow directions.

The other 2 DVDs we got to review were of Sid The Science Kid. Here is a little about the show from their site:

"Sid the Science Kid" is a new educational animated television series using comedy to promote exploration, discovery and science readiness among preschoolers. This landmark production of 40 half-hour episodes, co-produced by The Jim Henson Company and KCET/Los Angeles for PBS KIDS®, debuts on September 1, 2008, as part of the popular PBS KIDS preschool destination, the hosted two-hour morning block and online destination.

"Sid the Science Kid", The Jim Henson Company's first series for PBS KIDS that features a practical in-school science curriculum, uses music and humor to celebrate children's natural curiosity about science in everyday life. The energetic and inquisitive Sid starts each episode with a new question ("Why are my shoes shrinking?" "Why do bananas get mushy?") and embarks on a fun-filled day of finding answers with the help of family and friends.

I was surprised when Jeffery sat right down and watched the DVDs, I didn't think he'd be into something like this since it has nothing to do with cars, trucks, boats, airplanes or trains lol. I liked that he would ask me questions about the show, and how it relates to him such as in the "Change Happens" DVD there is one about why his shoes were "shrinking", so it explained about how everything living grew. Jeffery said "I'm not growing am I mommy?" and I showed him his old handprints from 2006 and let him hold his hand up to it, to show him how he IS growing, I also showed him and Jaylin, Jaylin's hand and foot print from 2006, I let her hold her big ole hand up to her itty bitty handprint, she was amazed.

Sid The Science Kid was fun to watch, it was entertaining yet educational. Sid would go to school and learn about all the neat things such as all about animal houses, his growing feet, why bananas get mushy, why his mom's pancakes were soft and his dad's pancakes were hard, but his grandma's pancakes were perfect (sounds like something that would happen in this house.) They do experiments in the classroom, like the one that sticks out to me was the mushy banana, the teacher had a new pumpkin, and a old decayed pumpkin (yes, they used the word DECAY! Talk about learning new awesome words) they put on gloves and explored each (don't worry, they made sure to include washing hands afterwards!)

So, check the sites for local times and channels to watch Sid the Science Kid and Dive Olly Dive!

All Fixed!

My blog is back to normal! Was just a small mixup with the photobuck account Czyania (sorry if I spelled her name wront) uses, shouldn't have anymore problems! Thanks C for fixing it so quickly too!

The Errors

As you can very well see by now, my blog is covered in Photobucket Error messages...I'm trying to get ahold of my designer because all of my graphics and images are in her photobucket account and thats the account that is over it's limit. I'm trying to get it all fixed...please bear with me while I try to get it all fixed.

I'm not the only blog this is affecting, so if you also happen to read The Nurse Mommy by Paige or A Working Blogging Mommy by Ryann, their blogs are the same...and once one is fixed they will probably all be fixed.

I'm sorry.

Hugga-Bebe (review)

Most of you have seen the picture of Jaxon in his new walker, and you probably seen the green pillow like thing holding him upright in it. That pillow is a Hugga-Bebe. I forgot how much a baby can be so uncomfortable in a walker when they are so small, when I put Jaxon in his without the Hugga-Bebe he fell forward and looked miserable. I had flashbacks to Jeffery and Jaylin in their walkers, I stuffed rolled up recieving blankets infront of them to keep them sort of upright, but it still wasn't quite enough.

With Hugga-Bebe Jaxon has support in the front and back, so his head can't swing backwards, he's held upright comfortably. I would have taken a before picture of him in his walker without the Hugga-Bebe, but he was so uncomfortable I couldn't make him more miserable by getting my camera and taking a picture of it. So you get to see more pictures of him with his Hugga-Bebe.

He's so happy sitting up looking around at everything, he has a new perspective on the world now! Hugga-Bebe's material is soooooo soft, and the pillow is soft but still firm enough to hold him up.

Hugga-Bebe is simple to put on too, just lay the baby on the bigger cushion while it's laying flat, then pull the smaller one between the baby's legs and attach the velcro straps! Make sure baby is comfortable then put baby in walker, exersaucer, playground swing or jumper!

Here is a little about the inventor Kimberly Davis and how she come up with the idea for Hugga-Bebe:
Kimberly Davis is known for her ability to fix problems. From projects around the house to taking care of the car to juggling a family, she is someone her friends and family turn to for help. As a mom of two girls, safety is a top priority for her. So when faced with a problem that could potentially harm babies and toddlers, she went to work finding a solution.

The problem: her 4 month-old nephew kept falling over in his activity center. Her solution: the Hugga-Bébé. In March, 2007, she invented the Hugga-Bébé, a safe, versatile and practical product that helps protect infants and toddlers while they are playing in activity centers, jumpers, walkers and park bucket swings.
Jaxon thinks the Hugga-Bebe is so comfortable, he decided to fall asleep in it while I was giving the kids a bath tonight.

Since he's teething, he drools a lot. So the question is, how does one clean a Hugga-Bebe? Just machine wash it separatley, and tumble dry on delicate...simple!

Hugga-Bebe comes in 3 cute colors, Jaxon has the green, they also have red and yellow. The price is just right too, only $29.99! I know Jaxon is already getting plenty of use out of his Hugga-Bebe and he's only 4months old!

I'm One PROUD Mama!

This morning I was woken up by Jaxon crying, time to eat...nothing unusual until when I was bringing his bottle back in I realized he had quieted himself back down, when I looked in his crib he had his THUMB in his mouth!!!! I was sooooo happy, I woke Jeff up, then ran for my camera...but unfortunatley the preflash startled him and the thumb come out....maybe next time. Thats proud mommy moment number one, sucking his thumb!

Then this evening when I come home from the city he was in his crib and had his foot in his hand!!! Just laying there happy as could be holding onto his toes! I DID get pictures of this!

Isn't he the cutest baby ever?

AND the happiest baby ever! Proud mommy moment number 2, grabbing his toes!

Then while I was feeding Jaxon this evening Jaylin come in and wanted to cuddle too...so I pulled her up into the rocking chair with us and we all 3 rocked while I fed Jaxon. After awhile she got on the ottoman and wanted to hold Jaxon, I of course let her when he was done eating and these are the pictures from that.

Kisses for her baby brother.

And then hugs, of course after she insisted he have a blanket on him. Proud mommy monent number 3...having kids who love eachother this much!

It's Still Hard

I just had to drop Jaylin off at school, there was no bus this morning. That was really hard for me. She kept giving me hugs, and kisses and didn't want me to leave. The teacher said she's doing better, still crying once in awhile for "baby" but that's an easy fix since baby is always in her backpack. I walked out of the classroom and I looked back, Jaylin had the saddest face, I felt horrible for leaving her there. She looked so helpless, I just wanted to snatch her up and run out the door with her, bring her home and cuddle!

I sucked it up, and left...now I'm here watching my baby sit in his walker and giggle for no reason...I love my kids! They are awesome!

He looks like we're going to be in trouble once his feet can touch the ground!!! He's in a Kolcraft walker (for Monkey Mayhem's 2009 Holiday Gift Guide!), and the green pillow thing is a Hugga-Bebe which I'll be writing the review for in a few mintues!

Isn't that smile just evil looking?? Evil...but precious!

Here is big brother Jeffery with Jaxon...I never realized how much they do actually look alike! I think the ears have it!

Some of My Kids

Before I give you an eyefull of my kids, here is what I found in our backyard the other morning after putting the kids on the bus!

Yes, 3 white tail deer.
My beautiful princess, this is an awesome picture I took of her before school one day.

Ok, face it, he can't be smiling all the time right?

Yes, he does sleep...sometimes.

I don't post many pics of Jeff...mostly because he don't like his picture taken...shhhh don't tell him I posted this picture!

Some playground pictures.

Behind Jeffery is the river bridge that goes over the Shenandoah River and the Dam.

I just like this picture of Jaylin, she's just a doll.

This is Jaylin last night after her bath, she said she was cold and went to get her blanket then did this all by herself.

Look at those big eyes!

He's precious!

He's such a strong little boy holding himself up.

I had more to post, but I think this has gotten long enough.

Fisher Price Happy Days & Nights Diapers (review)

Yes, you read that right...Fisher Price, the makers of some wonderful toys and baby products, now makes diapers! I didn't know what to think of a toy company making diapers...but after trying them out for a week I must say...I'm IMPRESSED!

When I first got Happy Days & Nights™ Diapers to review, I immediatley opened the package to check them out, I didn't see any cartoon characters or disney characters on them, I saw Fisher-Price® Precious Planet characters...which I immediatley recognized since they have a monkey in them and we have a few products for Jaxon in that theme. The other thing I noticed and liked, was the design wasn't where the tabs attach, they were underneath and on the back where the butt is! There are 2 different designs, one for the forest animals, and one for the marine animals. Of course the forest animals are my favorite, because on the back is the monkey! Where most diapers have the cute little design of the copyrighted cartoon characters that probably makes the price of the diaper go higher...Happy Days & Nights Diapers have Size Right! Size Right helps you see if the size diaper fits your baby right, there is a little red section on each side, then green, then yellow in the middle. If the tab of the diaper is in the red area, that means the diaper is too small for your baby, if it's in the yellow area, the diaper is too big and then of course if it's in the green area that means the diaper fits JUST RIGHT! Awesome, right?

Ok, I've talked about the looks of Happy Days & Nights Diapers enough, time to talk absorbency and fit...since after all that's the most important right? At first it seemed the Happy Days & Nights Diapers were stiff to put on, but Jaxon seemed comfortable in them. The tabs were super stretchy and size 2 goes slightly into the yellow, which means they are a little big, but it looked fine on him. I have to tell you this story, when we went to the Dr with Jaxon the other day, it was a hour trip over, and couple hours there, and another hour drive home, with all the hecticness (is that a word?) I didn't change Jaxon's diaper, when I did think about changing him he was fast asleep and I hated to wake him since he hates to be in the carseat, so from 8am til 4pm he was in the same diaper, NO LEAKS!!! When I changed him as soon as we got home, it looked as if the diaper could hold some more if I had left it on! He sleeps all night and NO LEAKS!!!

You are probably thinking "it's Fisher Price, they have to be expensive", the answer is NO! I actually researched it and compared to the diapers we usually use for Jaxon (Pampers), and in both of the Jumbo packs, of size 2 there are 42 diapers, they are both only $9.99!!!

My only problem with Happy Days & Nights Diapers is that the only place to buy them is at a Babies R Us store or Toys R Us online, and unfortunatley there isn't a Babies R Us around here, the closest one is an hour away. Now, if they were sold in Walmart or someplace close to me, I'd buy them allllll the time!

I didn't get to try the night time diapers, since they start at size 3. But they are supose to be more absorbant for those long nights. Happy Days & Nights Diapers come in packs with just the days, just the nights, or you can buy a big pack with both! I highly recomend these diapers now!

Jaxon's Appointment Today (heartbreaker)

I had to take Jaxon to the ENT today because he's been weezing and making a lot of noise while eating and after eating, his pediatrician wanted him seen. So once I put Jeffery and Jaylin on the bus, I made the birthday post for Jaylin, then went to pick up my friend Amy, and off to the big city we went (it's an hour drive)

So we get there, a tiny bit late because I had to fill up my tire since it's leaking air, and register, sat down in the waiting room and he was SUCH a happy baby, giggling and smiling at me and Amy! They called us back, they weighed him (he's 14lbs 8oz...but that's with all clothes on, a diaper, and shoes) we spoke with the nurse, then spoke with one of the doctor residents who checked Jaxon over....looked in his mouth, nose and ears (ENT...ear nose and throat lol) She then warned us that the main doctor might want to put a scope up his nose/down his throat! Seriously, me and Amy looked at eachother and we were about to run out that door! So we sat and waited for him to come in...sure enough he wanted to put the scope in my baby!!! He said it was no bigger than a piece of spagetti, so that made me feel a LITTLE better...not much though.

So we sat there waiting on them to get everything set up, Jaxon ended up fallin asleep on my lap while they were in and out of the room. Then the Dr come in and turned my chair around, then he sat down and faced me, put his legs on either side of my legs and we put Jaxon's head on his lap, and his feet on mine...you better belive that woke my baby up!!! Then he got the little scope (looked like a black peice of spagetti with a light at the end) and stuck it up one nostril...SCREAMS came from my itty bitty baby! The Dr was talking to his student and the nurse and the other Dr (BTW let me inform you, this didn't hurt him, it was just uncomfortable, they kept him awake so they could see the actual airflow and when sleeping, airflow is different) Then the 2nd nostril...I then heard the Dr say the scope barely fit through the nasal passage. He said a bunch of other big words I had no clue what he was talking about. Once he pulled that tube out of his nose and the nurse let got of Jaxon's head I scooped my baby up and cuddled him (blaming Daddy for it all...after all, if Daddy's genes were dominant he wouldn't have my itty bitty nose! Come on, laugh with me about it!)

Final diagnosis? SMALL NOSE! Seriously, all 3 of my kiddos have my nose, apparently Jaxon's is just a little bit smaller. He did say he has a flap of something over his voice box, and that can cause snoring, but nothing major. He also said there was something else (big words I dont remember) that won't be a problem til he's married and his wife makes him go back to the ENT about his SNORING!! The dr cracked me up!

So that's that, we go back in 6months (said he should outgrow it by then) and he's fine...nothing to worry about! :)

Happy Birthday Princess!!

Today is Jaylin's 3rd birthday!!! OMG where does the time go? I feel like just yesterday I was pregnant!! Here is one of her ultrasounds:

What You Never Hear About Tattoos

I posted last week about my tattoo, I went in fully expecting it to hurt like a you know what. It hurt, but not nearly as bad as I thought. But what really surprised me was AFTER I had the tat. Here are a few things that I've learned, that no one told me til AFTER the tat was done:

  • You have to put "tat wax" (different artists suggest different things for this) on it multiple times a day to keep it from drying out.
  • It WILL scab up, it will look gross...it won't look like you wanted it to after about 2-3days....but it's temporary
  • It will ITCH ITCH ITCH, and you CAN'T scratch it because it could mess it up.
  • It will peel, and peel, and peel and look like the tat is coming off
  • You won't know what your tat will look like until the END of the whole scabing, itching and peeling stuff
  • It will hurt for a few weeks afterwards, not just when you are getting the tat.
I'm seriously itching right now! Driving me nuts, not to be able to scratch it. Not to mention, because of the placement, even if I could scratch it I wouldn't be able to because my arm doesn't bend that way!!! UGH! lol But so worth it to have something so meaningful on my body permanently, I'll always have my kids' initals, and my grandmother's name on me...along with my all time favorite animal and my Nanny's favorite flower. Even with all this "suffering" it's well worth it.

Exergen Temporal Scanner (review/giveaway)

Flu season is fast approaching, which means pull those thermometers out of the medicine cabinets. I've been using those digital thermometers that go under the arm, under the tounge, or in desperate measures...in the bum (yes, we have a different one for each area lol)...yuck! Jaylin has been my sick child, she's had so many ear infections, sinus infections and fevers it just isn't funny anymore...she hates her temperature taken.

I was sent the Exergen Temporal Scanner to review. I was so thrilled that Jaylin LET me take her temperature, of course she wasn't really sick and I was just playing around with it. But it was a lot easier than holding her arm down so I could keep a thermometer in her armpit while she's screaming and having a tantrum about it for a minute! Took less than 30seconds to do!
The TemporalScanner Thermometer has been clinically tested for accuracy compared to rectal thermometers and temperature sensors inserted in the heart during course of patient treatment and accepted for use in major hospitals, making it the ideal thermometer for use with newborns, infants, children or adults.
It's easy to use too, just put the Exergen Temporal Scanner in the middle of the forehead, push the button then rub across to the temple then let go of the button...bam! You got the temperature! Easy, right?

The Giveaway: I have been given the great opportunity to give away an Exergen Temporal Scanner to one of my lucky readers!

Tardy B2S: Epson (review)

Ok, I'm REALLY tardy on this one. I wanted to make sure I tried it out completely before I posted a review so I could write my honest opinion of it.

I got the Epson Stylus NX515 last month to review, and I was so thrilled to get it because we have been needing a decent printer, and the fact that it's a copier and scanner too was an added bonus! The set-up was a peice of cake, I use a laptop so the fact that the Epson Stylus NX515 had Wi-Fi built in was awesome to me, I had never heard of a printer having that feature. I just installed the software that come with it, then within my laptop I searched for wireless networks and "Epson Printer" popped up. I was able to immediately print out a test page which come out in like...record time lol. We couldn't find our other printer cord to hook up to Jeff's desktop, but we had a ethernet cable and Jeff hooked the printer up to the router we use for internet and Jeff was able to connect to the printer that way. It's awesome, I can be in the bedroom and need something printed out and just click "Print"...I've scared Jeff a few times doing that, since it's on his desk beside his monitor, suddenly the printer starts printing something.

I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but I'm finishing up my online class in photography and I needed 4 pictures printed out, but I never remembered to take the memory card to Walmart to print. With the Epson Stylus NX515 to review I was sent a separate package with different samples of paper, different sizes of photo paper, printer paper, high quality, all Epson brands. I was able to print out my pictures on 4x5 high quality photo paper and they looked as if they had come from a photo lab!

The scanner is awesome! Check out this photo I scanned of my baby picture (this had to be in 1985/1986 sometime) There isn't any graininess to it or anything! Oh, did I mention it scanned and saved to my LAPTOP! Yes! All other scanners I've seen only saves to the computer it's actually hooked up to, but with the 2.5" LCD screen with the menu I had the choice of where I wanted it scanned to! Actually if you saw my Grandparent's Day post, those 2 pictures were scanned with this scanner too! The scanner is also a copier and I've only used that once, but when I did, it was awesomeness! I had to send in a copy of Jaylin's birth certificate, last year for Jeffery's I had my dad copy it (he also has an Epson printer/copier/scanner, but different model) One thing I haven't played around with, but I should have with this baby picture of mine, it has a built in photo restoration, no need to use the computer! Oh, you don't even need a computer to print out pictures, it has built in memory card slots, just print from the card and go! Awesome right?

The one thing Jeff said he didn't like about the printer, it uses up ink quickly. It could have been the pictures I printed for my photography class that used a lot up, but the black ink is already low. We don't print a whole lot out anyways, but when we do, it seems to drain the ink. Ink isn't too expensive though, black ink is only $16.99 on Epson's site, color ink for all 3 is $37.04 on Epson's site.

I love this printer, it works great for us, and especially since we take a lot lot lot of digital pictures, it's nice to have a printer that can print out those pictures nicely so we can have hard copies, or be able to give them to someone. The price isn't horrible either, the regular price is $149.99 but right now you can go to Epson and buy it for $99.99 after $50 instant rebate! It also includes your first set of ink cartridges!

School Updates

Friday was rough, Jaylin had an accident in her pants as soon as she got to school, so they rushed and changed her and put a pull up on her then took off to breakfast. She cried off and on all day, then really cried at naptime...she ended up making a couple other kids cry too. Needless to say I got a note home in her backpack. I called the teacher and spoke to her about it, I told her I was worried this would happen. She was so nice about it all. We agreed that I would send her in a pull up until she is familiar with school enough to be comfortable going potty there all the time. The teacher agreed to let her carry her "baby" around the class with her if she cried during the day, even though the rules are against that...they would make an exception to help her transition. At naptime the teacher agreed to put Jeffery's napmat next to Jaylin's (they do have to be 12" apart but thats not a big deal) We were both worried about how the weekend would affect how she acted at school the following Monday (today) getting used to being at home again, then being thrown back into school.

So when today rolled around, I was worried. But to my surprise she was excited to go back to school. I put a pull up on her, got her dressed and she even let me play with her hair a little bit. When we got to the bus stop she happily got on the bus (Friday she cried and I had to physically put her on the bus). So all day I sat by the phone, expecting that phone call....a call to tell me that Jaylin wouldn't stop crying and I had to pick her up....no phone call ever come (heck, our phone didn't ring all day) When I picked her up off the bus, she was happy as could be, the bus assistant said she was good on the bus, and good at breakfast and lunch (she assists Head Start at those times) I checked her backpack, and there was a note...I of course thought the worst, and that today was like Friday. I was shocked when I read the note and it said today was a good day...she only cried a little at naptime and she actually fell asleep before Jeffery. Fingers crossed she'll be that good everyday, and eventually will stop crying at naptime.

On to Jeffery, I talk enough about Jaylin I feel like I'm ignoring him. I wanted to show everyone a picture he drew the 1st day of school.  I asked him about it, here is the conversation:

Me: Jeffery, what would happen if you took an ostrich to school?
Jeffery: You don't take ostrich to school mommy!
Me: But what would happen if you did?
Jeffery: You are silly
Me: What did you draw here?
Jeffery: Oscar, me
Me: Who is Oscar?
Jeffery: My friend.
Me: Is Oscar the ostrich?
Jeffery: Yes, and thats me...I have hair, and Oscar has shoes

I couldn't help but giggle at this, he did a pretty good job at drawing "Oscar" the ostrich, and then a self portrait of himself...don't you think? I'm just a tiny bit biased right? lol I'm sorry the picture isn't that great, the crayon he used is light.
